LISA PICTON TESTIMONIAL

This week I had the pleasure of coaching Lisa Picton, long distance triathlete - see what she had to say about the session:

Elite Triathlete Testimonial - LISA PICTON

Jonno delivered a brilliant session which was well structured to provide a full theoretical and practical overview of the barefoot running technique.

The session included an explanation of the history and theory behind barefoot running; an analysis of current running technique; a series of flexibility/ self-massage and proprioception exercises to identify areas of weakness to work on; and all of this culminated into a first attempt at the barefoot running technique, followed by analysis and comparison.

The analysis included video footage taken from different angles and this enabled Jonno to provide immediate feedback on the form achieved and highlight any areas to work on.

Jonno’s belief and passion for this style of running is clear in his explanations and demonstrations during the coaching session.  He certainly leads by example and the strength and flexibility that he has developed in his feet, the ‘foundations of the body’,  are certainly something to aspire to and are evidence of how this technique can benefit runners in their training, on race day and in their everyday lives.

St Michael's Way

St Michael's Way Run

Fun 12 mile training run today, on the mostly off road route from near St Ives to Marazion via Trencrom and various farmer's fields. Good opportunity to test out the VIVOBAREFOOT Breatho Trail shoes and our navigation skills - the route is supposed to be well sign posted but we managed to lose our way a few times and had to back track through a few fields looking for the trail markers. So probably ran an extra mile in total, but well worth the effort for the views and to get away from the roads. I'd highly recommend the run for both the enjoyment of being away from polluting traffic and the off road training. Next time may have to include a swim around St Michaels mount and a bike ride out to Land's End!

Michael Birchmore - Elite Triathlete Feedback

I have recently teamed up with Jonno and VIVOBAREFOOT to help improve my running technique to help slash times and more importantly help keep me injury free.

It all started with a one-to-one video analysis of my running in my current shoes on a treadmill with Jonno, and from there he showed me my technique on his laptop pointing out good and bad points. We then re-filmed me running but this time barefoot, he pointed out how much better my technique was now I was stripped away of all the support in the shoes, which originally I thought were helping, but were actually making my posture bad.

He broke everything down to simple terms and went through the history of running which was both informative and interesting. He then showed me drills to help improve my running which I still incorporate into my training.

I must admit that I was very nervous at first about changing my running style after all these years, but after hearing all the information from Jonno it makes so much sense.

VIVOBAREFOOT have been so great, they've currently set me up with some casual shoes, which are so comfortable. These will help my calves and achilles adjust to not having that support. They have also set me up with Aqua Lites and Evo's which I am currently trying to switch to as my main running shoe. I'm still racing in other flats at the moment, but come the end of 2012/start of 2013 season I hope to be a full time VIVOBAREFOOT runner.

This concept of running is going to grow and grow and soon we will all be running the way we were born to.... Barefoot.
